Implementing minor adjustments to your lifestyle can greatly impact your long-term objectives. Instead of eliminating your favorite foods and beverages, consider replacing them with healthier options.


Achievable lifestyle changes

 

Preparation:

 

Being prepared is essential for handling steady minor adjustments in my lifestyle. For instance, on Sunday evenings, I prepare some healthy no-bake granola bars for the upcoming week; these take under 10 minutes to make, yet they offer me a nutritious snack all week long.

 

Keeping a stock of healthy homemade meals in the fridge or freezer can be incredibly useful during emergencies or unexpected situations you hadn't anticipated! I always ensure I have some homemade vegetarian bolognese in the freezer for those 'just in case' times. The same principle applies to breakfast; preparing overnight oats the night before is a great solution if you're in a morning rush. Homemade granola is also a great addition to your breakfast, perfect for sprinkling on yogurt or enjoying as a snack.



 Budgeting and planning meals can be a good way to avoid temptation at the supermarket. I like to do my food shopping online for two reasons:

 

1) To avoid the temptation of buying chocolate, biscuits, etc.

 

2) I save an additional £30 when my children aren't with me! I'm convinced they sneak items into the trolley when I'm not paying attention.

One of my preferred lifestyle adjustments, which can be easily implemented every day with remarkable outcomes, involves altering drinking and snacking habits, as well as increasing physical activity. I enjoy having a daily coffee as a treat. During the day, I consume water and loose-leaf green, spearmint, and rose tea. For instance, replacing a latte with green tea offers numerous advantages, such as:

 

  • Fewer Calories

  • Rich in nutrients and antioxidants, which help fight oxidative stress and reduce inflammation

  • Brain health

  • Heart health

  • Lowers risk of certain cancers

  • Improves health of your skin

  • Regulates blood sugar levels

  • Digestive health

We've already talked about how I enjoy baking a homemade healthy granola bar for a snack (recipe below).

I'm quite fond of sweets! I adore chocolate; there's no denying it. To balance this, I replace a chocolate bar with a Nakd bar, 70%+ dark chocolate. Other snacks I like include nuts, berries, hummus, and fruit. Gradually making these small changes can significantly improve energy levels, satisfaction, and satisfy that sweet craving with a healthier option. Incorporating healthier snack choices for the entire family can enhance overall family health. Snack ideas for children can include;


• Dried Fruit - raisins, apricots, dates etc.

• Cucumber Sticks

• Breadsticks and hummus

• Cheese cubes

• Crackers

A simple 20-minute daily walk in nature can enhance both your physical and mental health, as well as strengthen your immune system! Being outdoors can foster mindfulness and gratitude, ultimately enhancing our overall happiness.

Healthy NO-BAKE granola bars!

                                      

🌱 Ingredients 🌱

 

Two mashed bananas

Three tablespoons of honey

1/2 cup of peanut butter

2.5 cups of oats

1/4 cup of chocolate chips (70%)

1/2 cup of cranberries

1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

 

🌺 Recipe 🌺

 

~ Mash bananas

~ Add peanut butter and honey until smooth.

~ Add all other ingredients and mix

~ Line tin with parchment paper and smooth evenly to desired thickness.

~ Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours.

~ Slice into squares and enjoy!
